SPECIAL UPDATE: December 4, 2024

Vision Report & Petitions Delivered to Senator Looney

Dear Supporters,

This morning, we met Senator Looney and a number of other elected officials, including Hamden mayor Lauren Garrett, at Whitney Center on the perimeter of Six Lakes to deliver our community Vision Report along with our petition, which had a total of 2110 signatures!

This summer, the Six Lakes Park Coalition conducted a two-part community visioning process to learn more about your desires for the end use of the Six Lakes property once it has been cleaned up.

Now we are pleased to announce the release of the Six Lakes Park Community Vision Report, a document that summarizes the findings from the visioning process and the hopes of the community. This report will be used to guide our advocacy moving forward.

The key themes that emerged point to a vision for Six Lakes to become:

  • A relatively undisturbed natural park for walking, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, and passive recreation
  • An educational hub for activities like field trips, afterschool and adult programs, nature programs, academic research, and information about the history of the property
  •  A connector within the wider neighborhood to the Farmington Canal Heritage trail, creating a through-route, and offering a greenspace accessible by foot and bike

We’re also hosting a vision report webinar on Tuesday, December 10th from 7 to 8 p.m. to discuss the findings in more detail and answer your questions. Register here to attend the webinar!
